            My favorite type of narrative form is a non-linear narrative. A non-linear narrative utilizes flashbacks and an out of order storyline to convey the story. Often times these narratives are used in historical pieces or science-fiction. The extensive use of flashbacks in a historical film can contextualize the information portrayed. This helps the viewer take in more information in a shorter time.      The use of a non-linear storyline in a science fiction film is to confuse or disorient the viewer. Films such as "Inception" or Christopher Nolan's 2020 film "Tenet," use a non-linear storyline. These films are us ed to create a confusing, immersive experience for the watcher. The movie "Tenet" follows the "Protagonist" and his handler Neil through their journey forwards and backwards through time.  This clip  shows these two fighting soldiers which is revisited later in the film to show they the two were fighting ...

     An insight I had into the fil m,  The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, was the film moved slowly for the storyline. There were many facial shots of Dr. Caligari or Francis or Cesare, which took up time. This slowed down the film so that early watchers could catch the plot details.  Now that we have an expansive library of films in the 21st century, we watch movies differently.  In 2022, we have a shorter attention span than most people did in 1920. The difference is, we have such a large amount of information at our disposal, so we take in that information more quickly. That makes film s like  The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari seem slow, but an action film such as The Batman  by Matt Reeves seem quicker, even though the run time is three times longer.  We need a constant flow of movement, or else we freeze or lose our attention on the plot.           Hi, I'm Braden Estes, a student in Film 100 at North Central College. I am a finance major here and I play on the golf team. My hometown is a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana called Fishers. Similarly to Naperville, Fishers has its affluent areas near its downtown sector. When we first moved there, the town was large, but old and a bit dusty. Since I went to high school and after every time I come back from college, it seems like something is changing. Maybe a new building is going up, or neighborhoods I used to ride my bike through are being torn down to build restaurants and townhomes.      While I am an only child, I have a large extended family.
