Get Out's Impact

     Jordan Peele's Get Out is the first look into his directing style. Peele uses the lens of a horror film to look at the underlying racism in America. This approach creates a sense of urgency for the viewer to make changes in their views on the systemic racism in America today. Part of the way he does this is through casting. He purposely used relatable African American characters, and through Rod's use of comedy, creates  friendly personas for each black character. 

    The story itself is not relatable for African American people, but the message is. The small cast of characters makes it seem as though all white people in the movie are out to get all the black people. This helps Peele show that racism lies underneath systems. Even the police officer who helps them after the deer incident is called out for racism.

    Rod's use of comedy helps move the story to a lighter ending. Even though the story itself is dark. Rod uses his comedic insight to lighten the mood. His ending line of "Its T.S. motherf-ing A." even gets Chris to chuckle after all the grim events. Rod's comedy also makes him relatable to the audience, who enjoys his one-liners.
